About Us

Parvatiya Jan Kalyan Sansthan (PJKS-An ISO : 9001-2008 NGO) is a non-government, non-profit organisation that has been working for the empowerment of the marginalised and deprived communities in Uttarakhand, India. PJKS has been extensively involved in research and documentation, extension, lobbying and advocacy, community mobilization and capacity building at the grassroots.

The organisation is committed towards the empowerment of women, strengthening of Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) and civil society organisations, conservation and sustainable utilization of the natural resources, micro enterprise development, skill development and enhancing rural livelihoods in the remotest of remote villages in Uttarakhand.

Roots
RootsAlthough formally registered in 1990, the roots of the organisation date back to the early eighties when the founders of the organisation were involved in various student movements. Hailing from rural backgrounds, initially these young men and women waged a campaign for improving the educational standards in the rural areas. They were distraught by the fact that in remote and distant villages the teachers in government schools were frequently absent. They successfully lobbied for improving attendance of the teachers in the schools. Subsequently, they joined the movement for the creation of a separate state of Uttarakhand (Uttarakhand Movement) as they realized that being a part of the state of Uttar Pradesh, the aspirations and needs of the hill people were being ignored.

They were also closely associated with the Uttarakhand Jan Parishad and Uttarakhand Jan Sanghursh Vahini.  Later they were also instrumental in waging a war against child labour through the Bachpan Bachao Andolan.

Frustrated with the top-down approach to development adopted by the government and moved by the plight of the marginalised communities, these young people ultimately decided to pursue people centered development in their native villages. This laid the foundation of Parvatiya Jan Kalyan Sansthan (PJKS) in the year 1990.

APPEAL FOR DONATION

Parvatiya Jan Kalyan Sansthan is working in the area heaving toughest natural conditions and the community which every year faces numerous landslides and lack of medicinal facilities.

With over 75% of Uttrakhand’s population living in villages with scarce medical facilities the Infant Mortality rate for the state is reported to be 44 per thousand live births and of Garhwal is 65 per thousand live births. Around 89% of the babies are delivered at home with no nurses, midwives or doctors to attend to them at this crucial time. Maternal Mortality reached 440 (SRS 2004-2006) and 112 in Garhwal alone.

In the past years PJKS supported community health with its ongoing programs on Reproductive Child health and Integrated watershed management. Our savings are very short to meet up medicinal needs of our project areas in Bhilangna block of Tehri Garhwal and Thalisain & Pavo blocks of Pauri Garhwal. Organisation is planning to run one to one health program with the support of community and our dear donors to deliver the medicinal facility to the hilly women at their door step.

Your Small donations can help us to take medicinal facility to the remotest hamlet and let the life get its chance. Any money that you donate will help us in increasing medical facility in the areas so please just Donate.
