Integrated watershed management forms a major thrust area for PJKS and currently the organization is taking up watershed development under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojna (erstwhile Integrated Watershed Management Program; IWMP) in 9,729 hectare in two blocks of Pauri district of Uttarakhand.

PJKS has designed the entire program according to the needs identified by the community through extensive Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) exercises carried out in the project villages. This has not only meant that the local communities have been closely involved in the planning of the program but also this has ensured that community needs and concerns are being adequately addressed through subsequent program activities. In this way effective watershed management leads to the development and empowerment of the watershed community.

  • Cost of the Project is Rs. 14.5 cr
  • Funding Pattern; The Government of India is funding with 90% share and State Government with 10% share. The unit cost norm is Rs 15000 per hectare
  • Target Area; Integrated Watershed Management Programme is being implemented in 2 Blocks; Thalisen and Pabau of Pauri district of Uttarakhand. Government of India has Sanctioned 7 Watersheds under IWMP; Dhajuli, Khand, Maithana and Syotigad in Thalisain block and Choya, Tiloli, Balligad in Pabau block covering an area of 9729 hectares
  • Target Population; 54 Gram Panchayats comprising of 120 villages and 6124 households
  • Components of Watershed Development Programme; The components of Integrated Watershed Development Programme include; (i) soil and land management (ii) water management (iii) crop management (iv) afforestation (v) pasture or fodder development (vi) other farm and non-farm activities (vii) livelihood and micro enterprises (viii) and development of community skills and resources.
