In the remote hilly
villages of the state sanitation is a major problem. The lack of sanitation
leads to major health problems, especially for the women. To improve the
situation the state government has initiated the Total Sanitation Campaign (Sampurna
Swachta Abhiyan) in the state in association with the Project Management Unit (PMU)
of SWAJAL.
In this programme PJKS is working in 18 Gram Sabhas in the Thalisain block of
Pauri Garhwal district and Bhilangana block of Tehri Garhwal in Uttrakhand.
Through this programme PJKS is involved in the identification of BPL families
and motivating them to take up low cost sanitation programmes. The organisation
has been successful in motivating 4000 BPL
families to adopt the better sanitation schemes. In the coming months the
organisation is keen to motivate more families towards this end even with its
own limited resources.
PJKS has been awarded the commendation certificate as part of Rajeev Gandhi
Rashtriya Puruskaar Yojana.
